5/4/25 Youth Volunteers at Food Bank

2025年5月4日，中文学校青年志愿者积极参与了与地方食品银行（Regional Food Bank）合作开展的春季社区志愿服务活动。本次活动是本学年与食品银行合作组织的两次志愿者服务之一，旨在支持其大规模食品救济物资的分发工作。

在此次服务中，志愿者团队高效地完成了5000多磅新鲜蔬菜和水果的整理与打包任务。这些物资已于次日发送至覆盖22个郡（counties）的无家可归者收容所与食物救济发放点和厨房，及时为有需要的群体提供帮助。

中文学校每学年与食品银行合作，组织学生参与志愿服务，不仅为社区提供支持，也为学生提供了宝贵的社会实践机会。

On May 4, 2025, youth volunteers from the Chinese School participated in the Spring Community Service Event in collaboration with the Regional Food Bank. This event was one of two volunteer activities organized with the Food Bank during the school year, aimed at supporting their large-scale food distribution efforts.

During this service, the volunteer team efficiently sorted and packed about 5,000 pounds of fresh fruits and vegetables. These supplies were delivered the following day to homeless shelters, food pantries, and soup kitchens across 22 counties, providing timely assistance to those in need.

Each school year, the Chinese School partners with the Food Bank to organize student volunteer activities—not only to support the community, but also to offer students valuable service experience.

📢Dear parents and teachers:

The tuition fee of the Chinese school includes the yearbook fee. Each family that has registered for Chinese classes or the third-period extracurricular class can pick up a yearbook for this school year. The yearbook captures all courses and school activities in a school year, and shows the learning and life of the Chinese school through rich photos.

The yearbook pickup schedule is as follows:

中文学校将于5月11日（1:00pm-3:30pm）和 5月18日（10:00am-1:30pm）在Shaker Middle School举办书籍捐赠与义卖活动。

The Chinese School will host a Book Drive on May 11 (1:00 PM–3:30 PM) and May 18 (10:00 AM–1:30 PM) at Shaker Middle School.

We welcome donations of gently used books suitable for families and students, including Ma Liping Chinese textbooks.

You’ll also have the chance to purchase great used books on site for under $5!

All proceeds will go toward supporting the school’s educational programs and activity expenses.

关于中文学校AP中文课程简介:
我校AP中文课程致力于全面提升学生的听、说、读、写能力，围绕AP中文考试六大主题进行系统训练，强化实际语言运用与跨文化交流能力。课程内容注重阅读与规范写作，拓展中华文化知识，并通过定期模拟考试帮助学生熟悉题型，提升应试技巧，力争顺利通过AP中文考试并取得优异成绩。

About the AP Chinese Course in Chinese Schools

Our school's AP Chinese course is committed to comprehensively improving students' listening, speaking, reading and writing skills, and systematically training around the six major themes of the AP Chinese exam to strengthen practical language application and cross-cultural communication skills. The course content focuses on reading and standardized writing, expands Chinese cultural knowledge, and helps students familiarize themselves with question types and improve test-taking skills through regular mock exams, striving to pass the AP Chinese exam smoothly and achieve excellent results.

What is the AP Course? 

AP (Advanced Placement) is a college preparatory course that covers 22 categories and 37 subjects. It is currently offered in more than 15,000 high schools across the United States.

As a foreign language AP course, the AP Chinese Language and Culture course allows high school students to take and pass the exam to obtain college credits, and at the same time, they can directly enter higher-level Chinese courses during college.

Successfully passing the AP Chinese exam not only helps to improve the competitiveness of college applications, but also allows students to be exempted from foreign language courses or take advanced Chinese courses in advance during college. In addition, in New York State public high schools, students with excellent AP Chinese scores may also receive the honorary certification of the New York State Seal of Biliteracy (NYSSB).
