中文学校的各位家长、老师，你们好，

星期五发生在巴黎的恐怖袭击事件让人难以置信。

一个普通的周五在宁静中开始，却在枪林弹雨中结束，许多无辜的生命随之消失。在震惊、悲痛之间，让我们祈福他们的家人度过这个难关。

学校的安全是全体工作人员的第一要务。我再次提醒大家从食堂边的校门进入学校，不要使用其他校门。更不能故意卡住校门使之不能关闭以方便自己出入，或是打开锁住的校门让外边的人进来。

上个周末的故事会盛况空前，共有50多个节目把三个多小时的时间安排得满满的。感谢各位家长以及青年义工团员在会场的协助，让故事会顺利、准时的完成。在这里还有感谢每一位老师，是你们辛勤的培育，让孩子们不怯场，口齿流利，把一个个故事讲述的生动活泼。故事会获奖名单将于下个星期公布。

2015-2016年度奖学金申请11月22日截至。请将申请材料递交给张晓清副校长。这次奖学金评审委员会由张晓清副校长任主席，外加两名老师、两名家长会代表。评审结果会在期末总结大会上宣布。

Dear Chinese School Families,

As I started to write the weekly update, I can’t help but think of what has happened in Paris on Friday,
which is totally unbelievable. Gapped by an ocean as wide as Atlantic, we can still feel the shocking wave. I am deeply sorrowed by the lives lost in this tragedy and prayers go to all the families.

I also want to bring safety and security of the school to your attention. The school staff team has been trying best to maintain a safe environment for our kids. In the meantime, it is everyone’s responsibility to follow the school rules. No entrance to school facility other than the cafeteria door should be observed.

Last weekend we did not have school. Instead, many of us gathered at CCC for the annual story telling event. Being there or not, you can always review the pictures uploaded on CCC gallery  at https://www.flickr.com/photos/ccc_albany/albums/72157660422088169. We had more than fifty programs packed in three and half hours. I hope your kids enjoyed the time on “stage” and liked the award gifts. We doubled the award budget so the laughter got to double too. Award list will be announced next week.

Another reminder to the senior students that the deadline for scholarship application is approaching soon. Please submit your application to Vice Principal Xiaoqing Zhang no later than Nov. 15th. Make sure you go through the online scholarship application policy to include all the necessary material to avoid delay. The scholarship committee will be headed by VP Xiaoqing Zhang and consists of two teachers and two PTA members.

中文学校的各位家长、老师，你们好，

希望大家万圣节快乐。另外这个周日夏时制结束，

时钟往后拨一个小时，大家可以多睡一会儿懒觉了。可千万别拨多了，误了上学。

这个周末学校根据董事会的建议，将举行一次Town Hall Meeting，由校方行政人员、家长会代表、董事会主席出席。希望通过和大家的交流，多了解家长们的意向。会议1:15PM在大礼堂开始。我会先向大家介绍一下今年学校的注册以及预算情况。然后是自由问答时间。欢迎大家前来聆听、提问、分享或质询。

一年一度的大家讲故事比赛定于11月8日在华社隆重召开。今年将会有新节目出台，请和你们的班级老师联系。

Dear Chinese School Families,

I hope all of you will enjoy the Halloween weekend of trick or treat. And please, only bring the tricks to school, not the treats. This Sunday morning marks the end of day light saving by setting clocks back by one hour. Enjoy the extra one hour you saved in March.

It has been a tradition that the Principal gives a school-wide update on the last day of semester. This year, we will bring a change to this process. This Sunday, the school admin team, PTA and council will jointly hold a town hall meeting in the auditorium. I will give you an update on school operation and budget details around 1:15PM. After that, we will open the floor to answer any questions you may have. Please stop by the auditorium if you are interested in knowing how the school has been running financially and operationally. We also like to hear and understand what is in your mind, what are your primary concerns or any suggestions you may have. We hope to create more platforms to allow dialog directly with parents. The town hall meeting will be one of such.

The annual story telling event has been set for the date of Nov. 8th 1PM to 4PM at CCC . There will be new programs organized by the story telling committee. Please reach out to your respective homeroom teachers and find out details.

One more thing I’d like to bring to your attention. The only entrance to enter school should be through the cafeteria door. All other doors are locked from inside for exit only. Please do not pry these door open or let others in through them. Doing so may incur safety concerns. Your cooperation is highly appreciated.

中文学校的家长们，你们好！

不知不觉学期已经快过半。学校的各项工作都进入正常轨道。

上个周末在孙旭峰主席的召集下，召开了本学年第一次董事会，主要是商议本学年的财政预算。根据十月九日的统计，语言班注册人数一共364名，比去年略微下降。本学年的学费收入约为11.6万美元，比去年略微上升，盖因为注册文化兴趣课的人数增加。学校开支主要分为三大块：老师以及校务人员的工资和补贴为64%，学校的固定开支（租金，保险，财务审计等）为22%，其他各种项目（故事会，期末庆祝，老师培训等等）为14%。今年的收入和去年大致持平，开支也大致相同。财政预算得到全体董事会会员赞同，全票通过。如果你想知道预算细节或有其他问题，请联系我或孙旭峰主席。我想重点指出我们教师的工资在过去五年内没有涨过一分钱。正是她们无私的奉献，才能让学校以如此低的成本维持运转。在这里我向所有的老师表示衷心的感谢。

1．      讲故事比赛
一年一度的大家讲故事比赛定于11月8日在华社隆重召开。讲故事比赛一年比一年受欢迎，参赛学生不断增加。故事内容和表演形式也花样纷呈。具体的细节请看附件。如果你有什么建议或问题，请联系家长会主席徐健（jxuonline@gmail.com）。

2．      毕业以及奖学金
请毕业班的同学开始着手准备申请奖学金程序。今年学校从不多的项目基金里拨出1000元用于奖励在中文学校的优秀毕业生，以表彰他们多年在中文学校的学习，对社区的贡献，以及每个人所取得的优异成绩。申请程序可以在学校网站下载（http://www.albanychineseschool.org/Schoolhandbook/2015-2016/CS_Scholarship_2015-2016.pdf）

3．      第十七届世界华人学生作文大赛
第十七届世界华人学生作文大赛截稿日为12月31日, 所有参赛习作必须在12月6日前由各班老师统一交给参赛组织者何沈文老师。根据以往经验，各位任课老师可以有针对性的利用平时的作业鼓励学生写作发挥，聚沙成塔。希望年底我们有一大批高质量的文章参赛。

Dear Chinese School Families,

We are almost half way through this semester now. I hope most of new families have gotten familiar with the school routines. The school council has conducted its first meeting last Sunday with focus on school budget and registration update. We have also discussed a few new initiatives how to make school update or policy changes more accessible to the parents. You will be hearing from me or council chair more on this regard once we finalize the action plan. Before I talk about other school events, let me provide you an update on school budget first.

Based on enrollment as of Oct. 9th, the procured tuition revenue is about $116K.  We have 364 students enrolled in language classes, slightly lower than that of last year. But tuition revenue is a bit higher because more students registered for the culture classes. Based on the total tuition revenue and projected other incomes, the 2015-16 school budget covers a total expense of $113K, including teachers and staff compensation (64%), fixed operational cost (22%) and program cost (14%). The cost structure is almost same as last year. The budget has been unanimously approved by the council members. Here I want to highlight that the compensation rate for teachers has been flat for the past five years without a penny increase. We really owe the balanced budget to our teachers. I want to thank each one of the teachers for your spirit of volunteering, dedication, and continuous service to the Chinese community.

There are a few other things that may need your attention for students of different grades.

1.      Chinese Story Telling Contest at CCC
The annual Chinese Story Telling Contest will be held on Sunday, November 8th, at the CCC building (1:00PM – 4:00PM).
Every year we have a lot of participation, various programs and stories. It is a great platform for your kids to showcase their staging performance and win from a large pool of prizes. Please see attached flyer for more details and contact PTA Chair Jian Xu (jxuonline@gmail.com).

2.      Scholarship and graduation
For those of you who plan to graduate in the spring of 2016, this is the time to apply for Chinese School scholarship. Application procedures can be found in 2015 handbook or can be downloaded at http://www.albanychineseschool.org/Schoolhandbook/2015-2016/CS_Scholarship_2015-2016.pdf.
There is total $1000 allocated for the scholarship fund this year. It is meant to recognize outstanding graduate students of Chinese School for their continuous effort in Chinese language learning, participation in Chinese school, contribution to Chinese community, and academia achievement.

3.      Composition competition
The 17th International Chinese Essay contest has been announced in July with details attached. The deadline is Dec. 6h to submit compositions to Teacher Shenwen He. Every language teacher is encouraged to utilize their weekly writing assignment and have their students participate in this competition. We usually see parent involvement is helpful and promoting a good outcome.

中文学校的家长们，你们好！

“看万山红遍,层林尽染”，正是北方深秋的写照。

上个星期学校特地放假，就是便于大家出游，欣赏大好河山。这个周末大家可就要回到学校交秋游记了。

星期天学校董事会按计划召开第一次会议。地点是C206室，时间是2：50PM到3:40PM。主要议题包括本学年的预算开支以及学校注册情况总结。届时大部分校务人员，家长会代表和教师代表都要参加。需要找校务人员的家长，请安排在第一，二节课来。

请参加各项兴趣活动俱乐部的家长，包括篮球，羽毛球，乒乓球，舞蹈，务必在俱乐部以及学校网页登记。学校需要为使用校方场地、设备的每一个人人身安全负责。只有在学校登记，才能享受学校统一购买的保险并且合法使用学校的场地设备。

再次提醒大家一下，学校４PM需要准时关门。延时会增加学校的运营费用。请大家３：４０PM准时下课，课后及时收拾各自物品，４PM前离开学校。如有尚待解决的问题，请以后再联系学校人员处理。谢谢大家的配合。

Dear Chinese School Families,

Across the northern country, the fall foliage is at peak. Hope many of you have had chance to enjoy the nature’s grand show of colors.

This weekend we will resume from holiday break. According to the school calendar, we will have first council meeting this Sunday to review school finances and discuss/vote on 2015-16 school budget. This meeting will be held from 2:50PM to 3:40PM at room C206. All council members should be attending this meeting. Therefore, most of school staff will not be available during the third class period. If you have any questions or need help, please stop by school tables earlier.

For parents who have joined badminton club, basketball club, ping pong club, and dance club, please complete your registration at http://dreamschool.com/albany/ and pay your membership dues to each of the club chair person. The CCC Chinese School is held responsible for facility usage with limited insurance coverage. It is imperative that each of users register and be protected by the umbrella policy in case of emergency.

For last school day, it was found that the copy machine in the copy room was used by someone to copy Chinese School class materials and the machine was left in a jam condition.  I’d like to remind everyone that we are NOT contractually allowed to the copy machines in Junior Shaker High School. We have been equipped with two copy machines in the cafeteria for our own use. Even if the copy room is open, it does not mean we can use it. I appreciate your cooperation.

Lastly, all culture classes need to finish by 3:40PM. There is no exception to this. We must vacate the building by 4:00PM on time. Otherwise additional rental charge may incur and we will need to pay a bigger bill next year. If you need help from School staff after
4PM, please use email or phone to contact us.
