ABOUT THE COMPETITION

 

The goal of Sound of Asia Annual Piano Competition is to promote awareness and appreciation of Asian musical traditions through piano performance, and to introduce works by Asian composers to young and all musicians in Capital Region. 

 


             

ELIGIBILITY

          
Open to all pianists under age 18.
Phoenix Group: 6-11
Tiger Group: 12-14
Dragon Group: 15-18
      

               

COMPETITION RULES

            
*Winners (First and Second prize in each group) receive cash prizes;
   
*Special Artistry Awards are awarded at the discretion of the judges;
   
*About Asian Composers:
In this competition, we are celebrating the music of composers of Asian descent. This means:
If the composer is Asian by heritage/ethnicity, the piece qualifies—no matter where they were born or where they live.
The music should be an original published piano piece written by the composer. We welcome both classical and modern composers.
What doesn’t count: pieces by non-Asian composers that just “Sound Asian”.

*About Registration:
Use the button at the top of this page to fill out the register form;
A $50 Registration fee is payable through the secure site;
Participant will receive a confirmation email that summarize their selections; 
Email one PDF copy of your music piece to art@cccalbany.org
In early of January, we will notify you of the time of your performance and other logistics;
All award winners agree to perform in The Honor Recital on the next day after the competition.
