Public Speaking and Debate Class Introduction & Registration

Are you ready to conquer stage fright, stand out in classroom presentations, science/learning fairs, student council elections, interviews, develop leadership skills, or simply speak confidently in public? Chinese School offers Public Speaking & Debate Classes for 5th ~10th graders.

This course is designed for both experienced and novice Grade 5th through Grade 10th speakers, offering a fun and relaxed environment to learn and practice the tactics and strategies of public speaking. After mastering or refining your public speaking skills, the class will advance to debating—an essential tool for developing logical arguments, reasoning, research skills, and persuasive communication, as well as speaking with clarity and precision. For highly interested students, this course will also prepare them to participate in school speech and debate competitions.

The course includes engaging lectures, hands-on practice, peer collaboration, and in-class games/competitions. It’s a blend of instruction and active practice.

Homework will be minimal, assigned only if classwork is incomplete or necessary for the next activity, and should take no more than 30 minutes. Students will need an iPad/laptop, loose-leaf paper (in a binder, folder, or notebook), index cards, and pens/pencils for this class.

Please note that participant consent is required to record certain presentations for evaluation purposes.
