Debate 中学生辩论(Grade 6 - Grade 12) (2021-2022)

Start Time:
02:50 PM
End Time:
03:40 PM
Location:
S123

Students will learn the fundamentals of debate, including public speaking, argumentation, critical thinking, teamwork, and research during this class. This will be taught through lectures, practice activities, and competitions. There will be no homework, but students are expected to do research and find evidence for the topics we will be debating outside of class time.
Students will need a laptop, a notebook, and pens/pencils for this class. Materials will be distributed online and students will be expected to be organized when it comes to keeping track of their stuff.
The class will cover a lot of material. This includes writing logical arguments, crafting rebuttals, finding and utilizing evidence, asking important questions, explaining implications of arguments, taking notes during debates, adapting to different types of judges, speaking in a precise manner, etc.
While this seems like a lot, the goal of this class is simple: personal growth. Students will be learning a lot of new concepts but at the end of the course, students should be well versed debaters and see themselves improve tremendously.
Not only this, but studies have found that debaters see enhanced performance in school and are equipped with speaking, reasoning, and research skills that will accompany them for a lifetime. This class will provide them with these skills and hopefully also give them a love for debate.
