中文学校举办青少年象棋比赛
Chinese School Youth Chess Tournament
🗓️Date : 2:50~3:40pm, May 5 and May 12, 2024

📍Address: Shaker Junior High School, Room A226 & A225

✅Age requirement: 18 years old and under

✅Levels: Beginner, intermediate and advanced

⏰Registration Deadline: April 28, 2024

ℹ️Rules:
1) 4 rounds, 2 each day, where every student plays in every round. (If there are an odd number of students, a student will get a “half-point bye” (equivalent to a drawn/tied game) each round. That student can optionally play a non-counted game against a coach or parent to keep them busy.)
2) 2 “divisions” based on student age, higher and lower. Students in each division will play only other students in the same division.
3) Once all students are signed up (recommend deadline of April 28), Mr. Young will determine the divisions and the pairings for all 4 rounds.
4) We won’t use chess clocks but will encourage players to complete their games within 20 minutes. If a game is running longer than 25 minutes we may have to “adjudicate” it as a win or a tie. If any two players paired for the 2nd round of the day complete their 1st games early, they can start the 2nd round early.
5) All players are encouraged to bring their own chess set and maybe even ask to borrow from other families.
6) At the end, players will have scores from 0 to 4 and be awarded accordingly

中文学校第二届中文识字比赛已经成功拉开帷幕！

今年三月份，在全美中文学校联合总会举办的中文AP模拟考试中，我校AP中文班的学生取得了优异的成绩。大部分考生都获得了5分最高分的好成绩。

自开学以来，我校中文AP班的高中生们在李方老师的精心指导下，勤奋认真地学习。我们由衷地祝贺他们在这次模拟考试中取得的优异成绩，并预祝他们在即将到来的五月份的正式考试成功！

以下是中文AP课程小知识：
AP是Advanced Placement的缩写，即大学预修课程。这项考试包含了22个门类、37个学科，已在美国15000多所高中里普遍开设。

AP中国语言及文化（AP Chinese Language and Culture），简称“AP中文”，是申请美国大学时可以选修的一门AP课程。作为一门外语课程，它允许中学生选修，通过考试的考生可以获得大学学分，也能在大学第五个学期选修中文高级课程。

AP中文考试合格有两大好处。首先，考试合格孩子就能多拥有一门AP考试的成绩，优秀的分数可以为孩子的大学申请美国大学加分，而优异的学业成绩是孩子进入理想大学的第一步。其次，AP中文考试的优异成绩，可以让孩子在大学期间第五个学期开始选修中文高级课程或者免修其他外语。所以这门考试很受有先天语言优势的华裔孩子青睐。
