中文学校一周简讯 1/4/2016

虽然过了一个长假期，但是我们的好习惯没有丢掉。学校教室总体情况很好，谢谢大家的合作和努力。因为有一些新家庭加入学校，在这里还是有必要提醒大家在教学区（教室及走廊）是不允许吃零食或含糖饮料的。所有食物、饮料都必须在餐厅食用。坚果类食品，比如花生，比较容易引起过敏，所以是不准带到学校内的。另外，我要提醒大家，学校内外都是禁烟区。吸烟会被罚款。请大家遵守规定。

本学期第一次董事会按计划将于本周末第三节课期间在C206教室召开，主要是讨论上个学期的几个议案。如果你有问题，请会前或会后到C206教室找校务人员。

本学期预备有两个中文考试项目，报名截止日期都是2月7日，请相关家长注意了：
1.      SAT中文模拟考试
SAT中文模拟考试将在3月初举行。报名截止日期为2月7日，请八年级及八年级以上学生家长尽快报名。通过SAT中文模拟考试是中文学校毕业的要求之一。考试报名费（往年是$8/人）由学校负责。但是每位学生需交纳$10的保证金。考试当天退还。

2.      汉语水平4级考试
国家汉班举办的海外青少年汉语水平4级考试也将在3月中旬举行。报名截止日期为2月7日，请五、六年级的学生家长尽快报名。青少年汉语水平4级考试的程度相当于国家教委对外汉语水平考试的第三级水平，汉语水平考试共分6级)。考试报名费（往年$25/人）由学校负责。但是每位学生需交纳$20的保证金。考试当天退还。

The first day of school went quickly and smoothly. We have about ten new families this spring semester. Please welcome them to the big family.

I’d like to emphasize that food and beverage drinks are only allowed in the cafeteria. No snack, candies, or sugar based drinks should be consumed in classrooms or auditorium. Nuts in generally, e.g. peanut, are not allowed in school due to allergy reasons. It was good to see most of the classrooms and hallways are kept tidy and neat the past weekend. We all appreciate your effort in keeping up the good effort. Another thing I want to remind you is that smoking is prohibited within the school premise, including the parking lot. Please make sure you respect and follow the rules. If found smoking on-site (even outdoor), you may receive a ticket and fine.

This coming Sunday we will hold first council meeting this semester around 3PM in room C206. The primary agenda is to discuss the initiatives on tuition, compensation and curriculum. If you have any questions or concerns, please write to me or stop by before the council meeting.

Also, parents of 5, 6, 8, 9, 10 graders, I need your attentions:
1.      SAT II Chinese Mock Test
The SAT II Chinese Mock Test will take place on early March (final date TBD).  Students in Grade 8 and higher are highly recommended to take this exam since it is a graduation requirement. Parents should let the teachers know no later than Feb. 7th if your kids will take this exam or not. A separate application sheet will be sent to teachers for registration. The test fee of $8 per student will be covered by the school. A deposit of $10 is needed upon registration and will be refunded at the day of test.

2.      YCT Test
Students in Grades 5, 6 are highly recommended to take YCT Test (Level IV) that will be held in mid of March (final date TBD). Parents should let the teachers know no later than Feb. 7th if your kids will take the YCT test or not. YCT is an international standard test organized by Hanban (汉办) for the purpose of evaluating Chinese language proficiency of students whose native language is not Chinese. Detailed information can be found at http://english.hanban.org/node_8001.htm. The test fee is about $25 per student and will be covered by the school. A deposit of $20 is needed upon registration and will be refunded at the day of test.
