中文学校一周简讯 12/18

1．      期末安排
12月20日最后一次课以及汇报演出的日程安排已经就绪，详细请参看附送的周日安排。
我们共有21个节目。今年还新添了一个中文拼字比赛。同学们精心排练，为的就是向父母亲们展示自己一年来努力的成果，希望大家欣赏之余，给予最热烈的掌声。

另外提醒大家，第一排座位是预留给老师以及获奖人员的，学生按班级坐在中间大区，请家长们在两边入座，以方便学生登台表演。

2.      青少年义工团活动
我们的青少年义工团员们将会进行一年一度的Food Drive或“冬令救济”活动。“冬令救济”主要目的是捐助、收集、分发可以存储的食物（主要是罐头食品）以帮助社区无家可归的人们渡过严冬。这是鼓励孩子们奉献爱心的一次很好的机会，让他们参与到具体的活动中来，培养责任心以及义务感，同时也是一次很好的与别人交流、协作的机会，锻炼他们的独立能力。

现在已有6个义工团员加入。根据以往经验，我们还需要至少四、五个学生才能完成当天分配的任务。每年的“冬令救济”活动是华社青少年义工团的一次主要活动，代表了华人社区参与公共活动， 请大家积极响应。具体时间地点如下：

3.      理事会
上个星期的学校理事会主要讨论了本学年学校的三个重要工作方向：中文继承语教学大纲增改议题；学费及待遇；华社会员费征收制度。这三项议题主要由我、副校长单英辉、理事会主席孙旭峰分别牵头负责。如果你有什么建议、疑问，请与相关负责人联系。理事会成员还建议从本学年开始把每次理事会讨论的话题及内容上载到学校网页上，以方便大家查看、询问。

This Sunday will be the last day of Chinese School for the fall semester. I’d like to remind you that the class starts 10AM in the morning and there will be no culture class. The gyms will be available from 10AM till end of school. What I ask of you is simple: enjoy the day and have some fun, but stay safe and pick up your garbage.

1.      Last Day of School and Year End Celebration Party
The agenda for the celebration party is attached. We have 21 programs to be performed by our students with a new Chinese word contest in the end. I hope you will enjoy the show. Since we have more programs than before, we need to start the ceremony promptly at 12:45PM.

Please follow the on-site guide for auditorium seating. The first row of seats is reserved for teachers, award winners. The center session is reserved for students and their teachers. The left and right sessions are for parents. This way students can come to and from stage smoothly.

2.      Youth Team Volunteer Activity on 12/20th at Regional Food Bank of Northeastern
Food drive is a traditional event the Chinese School Youth Team has been participating for many years. This year is no exception. Two hours of volunteering work at food bank is an important part of effort in fight against hunger in the local community. During the holiday season, it will mean a lot to help prepare a home cocked meal for the people in need and your generous help will be much appreciated.

Currently we have about 6 students signed up for this event. We need at least a few more to have enough hands for this Sunday. Please encourage your kid to participate in this annual fun and meaningful food drive event.

3.      Council meeting
During last week’s council meeting, the members have discussed three key initiatives the school admin team has been working on based on feedback collected over the past year. One is to review and update language class curriculum (lead by myself). Second is to review school financials on tuition, compensation, and program expenses (lead by VP Yinghui Shan). Third is to review the mandatory CCC membership requirement (lead
by council chair Xufeng Sun). We are taking steps to move the council meeting minutes online so everyone has a clear view of what has been discussed in these meeting. If you have any concerns, questions or want to know more, please feel free to reach out to me or council chair Xufeng Sun.
